Raising Different Children (First Step)

There is a lot of knowledge in interacting with children! The way parents interact can raise children with different characteristics. Does the caregiver know what type of interaction he or she tends to have with the child?

When children take an hour to finish their meals, fight with others for toys, are unwilling to do homework, don’t put away toys after playing with them, run and shout in the corridor... As parents, what will be our usual reaction/response? Children react to the response we give them, and their response affects our reaction... This interactive process is both art and science, both clear and vague.
How should adults respond to children's requests? Should they give in or just ask the children to obey? Nature Play Director Helen Yuen mentioned the boundary between adults and children in an interview with Ming Pao:

At first glance, Messy Play seems to have no rules at all, and everything is based on the child's ideas. Can children really "play whatever they want"? Helen disagreed. She stressed that the concept behind messy play is mutual respect between adults and children. “Today, parents tend to go to two extremes in their methods of educating their children. One is authoritative, with parents giving many instructions; the other is to indulge the children in everything, as if whatever the children say is right. Why can’t we find a balance between the two?” -- << Ming Pao Happy Pa Ma exclusive interview on April 25, 2017 - How much fun can you have? Parents have to deal with a lot of things every day, and they may not necessarily stop and pay attention to what our usual reactions actually mean for their children's growth. Through the interactive workshop "Raising Different Children (First Step)", we hope to create a space for parents to realize the profound impact of different ways of interaction on their children. The guests will also share some time-tested, proven and effective interaction methods for parents to refer to and learn from, so that they can more easily raise children who are confident, independent, adaptable and creative.
