Recognize and develop children's perception
The eyes, ears, mouth, nose, heart, liver, spleen, lungs, and kidneys of a newborn baby are not yet mature, and they do not have the thinking ability to learn. What they can rely on are their senses, not their organs, and they learn through their senses. How do children learn using their senses? Can these senses be nurtured and developed after birth? How can parents understand sensory development in order to cultivate their children's future thinking and learning abilities? These are questions that parents are very interested in understanding. A more fundamental question: How do ordinary people perceive the world? We often think that people perceive the world with five senses, including vision, hearing, smell, taste and touch. Some people believe that there is a sixth sense (special sensory ability); or in the field of special education, you may hear about two more senses: proprioception and vestibular sense.
Are there other senses? Yes. Dr. Waldorf Steiner pointed out 100 years ago that humans are born with 12 sensory abilities. These perceptual abilities need to be nurtured and developed in a natural and healthy environment so that children can grow up healthily, and can better use these abilities to face various challenges in life and become healthy and happy people.
Children have different reactions when perceiving people, things and objects in the world. We find that those with weaker sensory abilities will learn more slowly or have varying degrees of learning difficulties; whereas those with stronger sensory abilities will learn and comprehend faster and will more easily establish a good learning foundation. Some children need adult assistance in the process of perception. As parents, if we can understand the development of our children's sensory system in a timely manner, it will be of great help to their growth and learning.
