General Education Batong Street Course (12 hours)

Suitable for: Children aged 7-13

Course Description

The “Liberal Education Batongjie Course” is an experiential liberal education activity designed for children aged 7 to 13, with a total duration of 12 hours. The course is inspired by the Octopus Card and takes children to different areas in Kowloon and the New Territories of Hong Kong to personally explore the local history, culture, economy and community characteristics. Through various tasks such as sketching, interviews, map reading, teamwork, shopping experiences, etc., the children will enhance their observation, expression, communication and problem-solving abilities, and deepen their sense of belonging and identification with Hong Kong.

Course Objectives

• Broaden children's life experience and enhance their ability to think from multiple perspectives

• Develop social skills, teamwork and self-confidence

• Understand Hong Kong's history, culture, economic development and social diversity

• Build a foundation of STEM thinking and enhance interdisciplinary knowledge

• Learn financial management, presentation production and creative design

• Enhance resilience and learn to handle emergencies

Course Content

• Visit museums in different regions and themes

• Young journalists activities, learning questioning and interviewing skills

• Field Map Reading and Scavenger Hunt

• Teamwork Challenge Tasks

• Experience different modes of transportation and learn about how cities work

• Financial budget and presentation preparation exercises

• Creative product design and display

• Understand different roles and professions in society

Course Schedule

• Class time : Every Friday from 2 to 5 p.m. during summer vacation

• Total time : 12 hours (about 3 hours per activity, 4 times in total)

• Teacher-student ratio : 1:3, ensuring personalized guidance and care

• Team leader : Led by a natural recreation instructor

Notice to Parents

• The course focuses on outdoor practice and group interaction. Please prepare appropriate clothing and personal items for your children.

• The activity is designed to be safe and the instructor will accompany you throughout the whole process

• Encourage parents to support their children’s participation so that they can apply what they have learned in real life and build their diverse abilities
