Plant Rubbing Workshop
When parents take their children to the park to let off steam, the children usually run to the playground first, climbing up and down, jumping around... sweating a little, drinking some water, eating some bread, and then going home. Mom and dad will play with their children from time to time, but usually their role is to let the children play by themselves and watch to see if they fall, argue with other children, play too much, etc. What kind of experience is this? Parents have more time to relax and rest, and the children are physically stretched, but there is not much in-depth communication between the two sides.
Perhaps we can have another imagination: go to the park, parents and children pick up fallen flowers, plants and leaves, smell the fragrance, look at the colors, and think about what these flowers and plants can be used for? Have you ever imagined printing the colors of flowers, plants and leaves on cloth to make a floral cloth, a scarf, a handkerchief, or even a piece of clothing? It is indeed a bit hard to imagine. The clothes we usually buy are colorful, and we don’t think about where these colors come from.
Teacher Dangdang from Nature Play hoped to preserve the beautiful colors of the flowers, so he traveled across the ocean to Melbourne, Australia to learn plant rubbing from teachers Jacqueline Grace and Kate Borradaile . The process of rubbing naturally makes people calm. From the steps of selection, placement, and rubbing, all are prepared patiently and in a planned manner. What is the result? It is often like life, unexpected and unpredictable. What kind of pattern will be printed is a surprise, and opening the printed fabric is a very exciting and anticipated thing!
Nature play hopes that adults and children can grow together. When participating in plant rubbings, they can not only exercise their minds and focus on their work, but also have a deeper connection with nature. We would go to the park to collect fallen flowers and leaves, and then go to the classroom to make plant rubbings, assisting the children according to their different abilities, so that each of them could make a small handkerchief of their own. The spring of 2018 is also a good time to enjoy the flowers and leaves. Take advantage of the arrival of spring and join the family in making a unique handkerchief!
